Two Minutes with the Feeling You Keep Running From

Most of us never actually sit with a hard emotion — we manage it. Here's a simple practice for staying present with what arises, just long enough to hear it.

A single candle burning low on a worn wooden table in a dim room, smoke curling upward

Something tightens in your chest. Or your jaw goes soft and strange. Or a familiar heaviness settles behind your eyes before you have a name for what caused it.

Your next move is probably automatic: you check your phone, pour a drink, start a conversation, clean something, plan something, scroll through anything. Not because you are weak. Because that is what humans do with discomfort. We move.

This practice asks you to stop moving. Just for two minutes.
