The Mask You Forgot You Were Wearing

Shadow work begins when you notice the gap between who you perform for the world and who surfaces when no one is watching. Here's how to tell them apart.

A single antique hand mirror face-down on a weathered wooden table, soft morning light coming through a dusty window

There is a version of you that knows how to enter a room. It knows the right volume, the right amount of self-disclosure, when to laugh and when to look thoughtful. It has been refined over years, maybe decades, by a thousand small corrections. A parent's frown. A friend group's silence. A job interview that went badly until you changed your answer.

That version of you is the persona. And it is not fake, exactly. But it is edited.

The shadow is everything that got cut.
